Michael's Birthday Party

We had Michael's 2nd birthday party this past Sunday.  I decided to do a taco and nacho bar for something different, and it went over quite well.  Michael was acting very whiney and clingy Sunday morning, and at noon, I decided to put him in bed for a nap before the party started (which is very unusual).  Well, the party started at 1:00 pm and Michael woke up on 2:45 pm with a 102.5 degree fever.  Needless to say, he wasn't interested in any birthday party!  We gave him some Tylenol, and after a 1/2 hour he came around, and was somewhat interested in what was going on.  We bought a Pinata for the kids to beat on...it was a hit.  Here are some photos from the party.

Michael wasn't very interested in opening his gifts, so I had to orchestrate the gift opening

I made this cupcake "cake" of Blues Clues.  I think next year I'm just going to buy a cake!

Michael was crying as we sang "Happy Birthday"....but he did blow out his candle!

Thanks for coming everyone!

Baby Joshua

My brother Bill and his wife Bridgett had a baby boy in July - Joshua Peter.  Michael loves this little baby.  He always wants to hold Joshua, and starts throwing a tantrum when we take the baby from him.  He loves to go and sit by the baby in the bouncy seat, and caress the baby's head and give him kisses, and give him his pacifier (whether Joshua wants it or not!).  He can't say "Joshua" yet, so he always refers to the baby as "baby".

Enjoying the Last of Summer

We spent some time at my brother's last week, and Michael enjoyed spending time swimming with his cousins.

Happy Birthday Michael!

Happy 2nd Birthday Michael!   You are growing into such a fine boy, and we are so glad to have you in our family!  Here's a collage of pictures from his 1st birthday last year up until now!

All the Posts

Well, I've made a massive amount of posts today.  I'm at my sister-in-law's so I've taken advantage of Michael playing with his cousins to get 6 weeks worth of postings recorded.  I'm striking out on internet access in the woods, but have a few more possibilities to investigate, and then will probably have to succumb to expensive and slow satellite internet.

Tomorrow is our little boy's second birthday!  We are having a party this coming weekend, so stay posted for all the fun shots of his birthday.  I can't believe it's already been two years!!!

Fishing on Lake Gogebic

We recently went on our annual Lake Gogebic fishing trip.  Our friends Jerry and Lynn graciously host us every year.  The fishing was slow this year, but the tranquility of the lake and the breathtaking scenery is worth the trip even if the fish weren't biting.  Lake Gogebic is known for its large walleye and jumbo perch...unfortunately, there was mayfly hatch right before we got there, so the fish had plenty to eat without us trying to give them bait to take.  Michael spent three days with my parents, so Russell and I were able to get away without interruption to do some serious fishing.

Our gracious fishing guide, Jerry.  I will humbly admit that Jerry won our annual fishing contest this year!!!

The gorgeous sunset one night while we were fishing.  Here's the step-by-step play of the sunset.  It was absolutely fantastic.

Then I put my telephoto lens on and captured this:

We usually fish in the pontoon boat in the mornings, and the 16 ft deep fisherman boat at night.  Here are some shots of the pontoon boat/dock at sunset.

The Upper Michigan area is known for its population of bald eagles.  Here we spotted a large bald eagle nest on Lake Cisco.

I don't know how familiar folks are with loons, but the Upper Michigan lakes have a large aboundance of loons habitating the lakes although they are becoming an endangered species.  Loons are beautiful birds that have beautiful and striking calls to communicate.  They can fly but cannot walk on land, and they are excellent swimmers and divers in the lakes.  So they are ALWAYS close to water.  Here are some closeup shots I was able to get of these fascinating birds.

It was another great time at the lake.  Thanks Jerry and Lynn for hosting us once again!

More Wild Flowers and Perennials

At one time I posted at how amazed I was at the flowers blooming in the woods and the perennials that were planted on our property.  Of course, they bloom at all different times, so there is always some color at any given time.  Here is a mirage of all of the flowers/berries that I've spotted on our property in the last 6 weeks.  The biologist is coming out in me!
